In Situ Stabilization / Solidification (ISS)

Loureiro conducts treatability testing using In Situ Stabilization / Solidification (ISS) amendments to remediate a wide range in types and concentrations of contaminants, including PFAS compounds.  ISS amendments act as binding agents and when mixed with soil, immobilize contaminants and reduce their leachability to groundwater.  ISS treatment also results in increased strength properties, which are beneficial for sites designated for reuse to support structures.

Binding Agents can include one or more of the following:

  • Portland cement
  • Blast furnace slag
  • Fly Ash
  • Calcium oxides / hydroxides
  • Lime Cement Kiln

Binding agents can also be combined with contaminant destruction amendments:

  • Carbon
  • In Situ Chemical Oxidation - the high pH of cement activates sodium persulfate into the required range for alkaline activated persulfate
